Q: How do I change my email address?
To change the email address where you receive messages from the Group, log in at http://listserv.wnyric.org/scripts/wa.exe?A0=NYSASA . In the upper left hand corner, click on “Subscriber's Corner.” On the next screen under the “My Lists” tab, click on “Settings” next to the NYSASA list. Type in your new email address in the appropriate field. Then click the “Update Options” button at the bottom of the page.

Q. How do I change the way I receive email from the NYSASA E-mail Group?
You can update your own settings for how you receive email by logging in at http://listserv.wnyric.org/scripts/wa.exe?A0=NYSASA. In the upper left hand corner, click on “Subscriber's Corner.” On the next screen under the “My Lists” tab, click on “Settings” next to the NYSASA list.

For mail delivery options, look at the section entitled, “Subscription Type.” Select a bullet from among the following options:

Regular
With a "regular" subscription, you receive each individual posting as it is contributed and processed by the listserv.

Digest (Traditional), Digest (MIME format), Digest (HTML format)
With a "digest" subscription, you receive one message a day which contains all the messages sent to the NYSASA Email group for that day.

Digests are a good compromise between reading everything as it is posted and feeling like the list is clogging your mailbox with a multitude of individual postings.

There are three digest formats: a "traditional" text-only format; a MIME format, which (for email applications that understand MIME digests) "bursts" the individual messages out of the digest so that you can read them separately; and an HTML format, which requires an HTML email application.

Index (Traditional), Index (HTML format)
With an "index" subscription, you receive one daily message containing only the subject headings of the messages posted that day, without including the full text of the individual postings. The index will contain instructions on how you can then download messages of interest from the server.

An index subscription is ideal if you have a slow connection and only read a few hand-picked messages. The indexes are very short and you do not have to worry about long download times. The drawback of course is that you need to reconnect to retrieve messages of interest from the server.

You can choose to have the index sent to you in either a traditional format (plain text) or in HTML format with hyperlinks.

When making changes to any of your settings, always make sure you scroll to the bottom of the screen and click “Update Options” to save your changes.

Q: What should I do if I am out of the office or on vacation?
Many persons who will be out of their office for an extended period of time set up their email application to automatically send an “Out of office” message to anyone who sends them an email while they are away. “Out of office” messages on certain list configurations can cause mail loops between the listserv and your email server. This can lead to hundreds (or even thousands) of these messages being sent out and clogging up your and others' inboxes.

The list management software for the NYSASA Email Group is designed to prevent automatically generated “Out of office” messages from bouncing back to all members of the listserv. However, if you will be out of the office for a period of time and will use an automatic “Out of office” message, we strongly recommend that you configure your “Out of office” message to not respond to messages from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or addresses containing the “NYSASA” or “LISTSERV” characters. Refer to your email application's documentation on how to set up this type of exception for “Out of office” messages.

Another option is to change your NYSASA Email Group mail delivery options to “nomail” while you are away. Changing your settings to “nomail” will temporarily stop receipt of all messages from the NYSASA E-mail Group. When you return and are ready to resume receiving messages from the Group as they are contributed, you can log back in and disable the “nomail” setting. If you want to see what you might have missed in your absence, you can always access the archives.

To change your mail delivery option to “nomail” while you are away, log in at http://listserv.wnyric.org/scripts/wa.exe?A0=NYSASA. In the upper left hand corner, click on “Subscriber's Corner.” On the next screen under the “My Lists” tab, click on “Settings” next to the NYSASA list. Scroll to the bottom of the next screen and put a check mark in the box marked “Mail delivery disabled temporarily.” Upon your return to the office, log back in and uncheck the box.

Q: How do I use the archives?
To access the archives, log on at http://listserv.wnyric.org/scripts/wa.exe?A0=NYSASA. Scroll down to view archived messages by the week (the most recent are at the top), or  go to the “Search Archives” box on the right hand side of the page to search by key words, author, date, etc.

Once you have finished viewing the archives, make sure you log out by clicking on the “log out” command in the upper right hand corner of the listserv screen, rather than just closing out your browser window.
